PROCEDURE TEXT
“Procedure text is a piece of text that give us instructions for doing something.”
“Procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a sequence of actions or steps.”   
Jadi dapat disimpulkan disini, procedure text adalah jenis text yang bertujuan untuk menggambarkan suatu perintah atau instruksi tentang bagaimana sesuatu dicapai sesuai urutan atau langkah-langkah yang benar.
Dan biasanya judul procedure text diawali dengan “How to ….“. Contohnya misalnya seperti “How to make a cup of tea” (Cara membuat secangkir tea), “How to Use the Computer” (Cara menggunakan komputer), dan masih banyak lagi contoh lainnya.
Ciri ciri prosedure text  
  • Mengunakan Simple Present Tense (S+V1)
  • Berbentuk imperative/bentuk perintah,
  • Menggunakan action verbs, contoh: make, take, boil, cook,
  • Menggunakan temporal conjunctions, contoh: First, then, next, after that, last
  • Menggunakan conjunctions (kata penghubung) untuk mengurutkan kegiatan, misalnya then, while, dsb.
  • Menggunakan adverbs (kata keterangan) untuk menyatakan rinci waktu, tempat, cara yang akurat, misalnya for five minutes, 2 hours, dsb.
  • Menggunakan adverbs (kata keterangan) untuk menyatakan tahapan atau urutan, misalkan the first, the second, the third, the last, etc.

Tujuan Procedure Text

“The social purpose of procedure text is to show how something is done through sequence of steps which enable the reader to achieve the goal.”
“The purpose of procedure text is to tell the reader how to do or make something through a sequence of actions or steps.”
Jenis-jenis Procedure Text
Procedure text dalam bahasa inggris mempunyai beberapa jenis. Berikut ini ada 3 jenis procedure text yang harus Anda ketahui.
  • Procedure text yang menjelaskan bagaimana sesuatu bekerja atau bagaimana menggunakan instruksi/operasi manual , misalnya , how to use computer, how to record video, how to use plaroid camera.
  • Procedure text yang menginstruksikan bagaimana melakukan aktivitas tertentu, misalnya, how to make a noodle, how to dance, how to play basketball.
  • Procedure text yang berhubungan dengan perilaku manusia, misalnya, how to succeed, how to live happily, how to be a good person.
Generic Stucture of Procedure Text
Procedure text memiliki skema susunan umum atau generic structure. Berikut ini generic stucture of procedure text:
  • Goal : memberikan     informasi tentang maksud dan tujuan prosedur dan memprediksi suatu kesimpulan.
  • Materials : berisi daftar materi atau bahan-bahan yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan suatu prosedur atau langkah-langkah.
  • Steps : daftar urutan instruksi/aktivitas untuk mencapai tujuan dalam urutan langkah yang benar.
  • Result : Hasil dari serangkaian langkah-langkah yang telah dilakukan.
Unsur kebahasaan:
  • Kalimat perintah (imperative): cut the apples into small pieces
  • Action verbs: cut, peel, boil
  • Conjunction: first, then, finally
  • Quantity phrases: 100gr of sugar, a slice of cheese
  • Kosa kata yang berhubungan dengan masakan, alat- alat masak
  • Ucapan, tekanan, intonasi kata yang benar
  • Ejaan, tanda baca, dan huruf besar yang benar.
EXAMPLE
How to Make Novel Apple PuddingPPUDDING
Ingredients :
  • 4 green apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced
  • ¼ cup/45g self-raising flour, sifted
  • 60g butter or margarine, cubed
  • ½ cup/100g caster sugar
  • 1¼ cups/300ml water

Methods:
  1. Place apple in a heat-proof dish. Place flour in a bowl. Rub in margarine using fingertips.
  2. Stir in sugar and water (mixture should be lumpy). Pour over apples.
  3. Bake at 180oC for 1 hour or until syrupy and golden. Serve warm with cream or ice cream.
Serves 6
Preparation time 15 minutes
Cooking time 60 to 70 minutes
 How to Make “ES TELER”
Ingredients:
  • 150 g (1½ cups) sugar
  • 2 pandan leaves, shredded lengthwise and tied in a knot
  • 3½ tablespoons (50ml) water
  • 400g ripe avocado, cut into 1-cm cubes
  • 400g ripe jackfruit, deseeded and cut into 1-cm cubes
  • 3 young coconuts, meat scraped out
  • crushed ice
  • condensed milk
Steps:
  1. Combine sugar, pandan leaves and water in a small saucepan
  2. Heat the mixture for a few minutes over low heat until sugar dissolves.
  3. Cool syrup.
  4. Place generous spoonful of cubed avocado, jackfruit and young coconut into a serving bowl.
  5. Add a little syrup to sweeten, top with crushed ice and
  6. Drizzle on a little condensed milk.
  7. Serve immediately.
  8. Serves 4-6
How To Use An Electronic Iron (Cara Menggunakan Setrika Elektrik)
We use the heat of an electronic iron to remove wrinkles from fabric and get our clothes tidy. In order to do so, we need to follow these following steps.
1. Prepare the iron, the clothes, a place mat or any flat surface board, some clothing hanger.
2. Plug the iron cable into an electricity socket and wait until the iron get warmer.
3. Place the clothes on the place mat.
4. Apply the iron on the clothes surface evenly.
5. Flip the clothes and apply the iron on the other side of the clothes evenly.
6. Put the clothes on the clothing hanger
7. Continue with another clothes.

How To Operate An Electronic Rice Cooker (Cara Mengoprasikan Penanak Nasi Elektrik)
Nowadays cooking is no longer a complicated things. Especially when it comes to cooking rice, there is an electronic device designed specially for this. We know this device as Rice Cooker, Magic Jar or Magic Com. The following steps will show you how to operate a Rice Cooker properly.
1. Wash the cooking pot and make sure the inner side is clean.
2. Measure the rice by using the measurement cup and put the rice into the cooking pot. Make sure to give space for the rice, water and the expansion.
3. Rinse the rice so that we can remove the pesticides that may be present.
4. Add some water into the cooking pot, usually we need to see the water is 1cm above the rice surface.
5. Soak the rice for about 30 minutes in order to make the cooked rice stickier.
6. Put the cooking pot along with the rice and water into the Rice Cooker.
7. Close the Rice Cooker lid and then plug the cable into the electricity socket.
8. Start the Rice Cooker by pressing the Cooking/Timer Button.
9. Wait until the cooking process is over.
10. Open the lid and the rice is ready to be served.
